First American History
First American Payment Systems began operations in 1990 and is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.
As a rapidly growing non-bank merchant acquirer, First American’s goal is to be more than just a credit card processor. So in 1993, First American introduced Secur-Chex® check services to allow merchants to accept checks risk-free. In 2003, Secur-Chex® was modified to include electronic check conversion and RCK services. Merimac Capital® point-of-sale (POS) equipment leasing, which solved POS equipment finance problems for many merchants, was also created in 1993. First American added debit card processing to its product line-up in 1998, and ATM sales and placements soon followed. Early in 2000, First American launched FirstPay.NetTM, a proprietary Internet payment gateway that allows merchants to process credit cards online. The e-commerce product was updated and enhanced five years later and named FirstPay.Net 2.0. FirstViewTM, an online merchant reporting system, was introduced in 2001, and FirstAdvantageTM gift cards were introduced in 2005. The precedent is set for many promising product advancements in the future.
Today, First American is an ever-expanding company with approximately 1,200 associates and more than 90,000 merchants along with hundreds of independent sales agents throughout the United States. Bolstered by a rich history of providing the right product at the right time, First American continues on its quest to become the premier source for quality payment solutions.
